John H. Cornelius

Grove City native portrayed Santa at malls

- — John H. Cornelius of North Diamond Street, Mercer, passed away at 3:46 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a brief illness. He was 75.

Mr. Cornelius was born March 13, 1938, in Grove City to Charles Clinton Cornelius and Virginia I. McCarl Cornelius.

John was in retail sales most of his life and for many years played Santa Claus for the holidays at many malls in New York and the New Jersey area.

During John's later life, he was drug and alcohol counselor, mostly in the Atlanta, Ga., area.

John served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era.

He was of the Protestant faith.

Survivors include two children; his brother, Charles C. Cornelius Jr. and his wife Judith, Grove City; a nephew, a niece and a cousin.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
