- — PITTSBURGH – Elizabeth “Betty” A. Moore, formerly of Grove City, passed away peacefully Monday (10-21-13) in Pittsburgh. She was 87.

Mrs. Moore was born Feb. 28, 1926, in Uniontown, Pa., to Devona McKenzie.

She grew up in Pittsburgh and was a graduate of Braddock Hospital School of Nursing, where she was employed until she began working at Western Psychiatric Hospital, Pittsburgh.

She married Henry S. Moore on Oct. 22, 1948. They moved to Grove City where they raised their family.

Betty was active in many civic organizations including the Women’s Club, Shakespeare Club and the PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization), and was a founding member of Grove City Community Library.

She later graduated from Slippery Rock University with a bachelor of science degree in nursing and a master of arts in counseling.

She continued her nursing career with Mercer County Health Association and helped to establish the partial hospitalization program for her patients, to whom she was so devoted.

While in Grove City, she was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church and Tower Presbyterian Church. Later she was a member of East Liberty Presbyterian in Pittsburgh, where she particularly enjoyed its Taize services, making two pilgrimages to Taize, France.

Betty loved reading, traveling, theatre, the arts, cats, shopping, flowers, ice cream and discussions on almost everything.

She was an early enthusiast of yoga and meditation. She was noted for her excellence in interior design and entertaining with her gourmet cooking skills.
