Elizabeth ‘Betty’ A. Moore

Ex-GC resident was nurse, instructor, active in church


- — PITTSBURGH – Elizabeth “Betty” A. Moore, formerly of Grove City, passed away peacefully Monday (10-21-13) in Pittsburgh. She was 87.

Mrs. Moore was born Feb. 28, 1926, in Uniontown, Pa., to Devona McKenzie.

She grew up in Pittsburgh and was a graduate of Braddock Hospital School of Nursing, where she was employed until she began working at Western Psychiatric Hospital, Pittsburgh.

She married Henry S. Moore on Oct. 22, 1948. They moved to Grove City where they raised their family.

Betty was active in many civic organizations including the Women’s Club, Shakespeare Club and the PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization), and was a founding member of Grove City Community Library.

She later graduated from Slippery Rock University with a bachelor of science degree in nursing and a master of arts in counseling.

She continued her nursing career with Mercer County Health Association and helped to establish the partial hospitalization program for her patients, to whom she was so devoted.

She was an instructor at Sharon Regional Health System School of Nursing and also worked as a therapist in her private practice as a gestalt therapist.

While in Grove City, she was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church and Tower Presbyterian Church. Later she was a member of East Liberty Presbyterian in Pittsburgh, where she particularly enjoyed its Taize services, making two pilgrimages to Taize, France.

Betty loved reading, traveling, theatre, the arts, cats, shopping, flowers, ice cream and discussions on almost everything.

She was an early enthusiast of yoga and meditation. She was noted for her excellence in interior design and entertaining with her gourmet cooking skills.

As a loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend and confidante to so many, she has left with us her spirit of wisdom, compassion and resilience.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, who died Oct. 21, 1990; her mother; and her son, Kevin.

She leaves: her sons, Thomas and Brian, both Pittsburgh; and Daniel and his wife Jody, New Hampton, N.H.; her daughters, Kathleen Faulisi and her husband Rob, Voorhiesville, N.Y.; and Erin Moore, Pittsburgh; her grandchildren, Christopher and Liz Faulisi, Mariah Moore-Khanna, Ellie Moore and Deirdre Moore; along with her great-grandchildren, Asha and Yogi Khanna.

Her funeral service was held Tuesday (10-29-13) in East Liberty Presbyterian Church, Pittsburgh.
