Paul Levre Durnell

Retired forklift operator liked country music, slots

- — Paul Levre Durnell of Mercer (Springfield Township), formerly of Worth Township, Butler County, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, in UPMC Passavant in Pittsburgh. He was 84.

Mr. Durnell was born May 6, 1929, in Slippery Rock, Worth Township, Butler County, to Charles Edward Durnell and Myrtle Edna Book Durnell.

He was a forklift operator and retired in 1993 from Cooper Brothers of Slippery Rock, now called Sidleys.

Paul was of the Protestant faith.

He loved slot machines, country music, watching studio wrestling and the Pittsburgh Pirates. Paul was the best horseshoe player.

He married Betty Jo Trowbridge on Aug. 13, 1955; she preceded him in death Dec. 26, 1998.

Survivors include his companion, Dorothy Kiester, Mercer; five daughters, Brenda L. and her husband Tim Murphy, Manchester, Md.; Geraldine Dixon and her companion Ken Sybert; and Donna D. Piper and her companion Dave Colton, all Slippery Rock; Bonnie L. Wright and her companion Hank Knight, Grove City; and Dolly M. Ball and her companion Paul Grove, Mercer; and three sons, Dennis C. Durnell and his wife Kim, Harrisville; Fred L. Durnell and his companion Dawn Bartley, Slippery Rock; and Lawrence P. Durnell and his companion Debbie Czzowitz, Butler.

He also leaves a brother, Charles Durnell, Slippery Rock; two sisters, Donna Reges, Mercer; and Betty Durnell, Butler; and 22 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, Paul was preceded in death by a brother, Dean; and two sisters, Arlene Agostino and Mae Eichenberger.

Calling hours: 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday (11-1-13) in SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.

Service: Funeral services at 11 a.m. Saturday (11-2-13) in the funeral home with the Rev. Richard N. Carlson, pastor of Balm United Methodist Church, Blacktown, officiating.

Interment: Slippery Rock Cemetery.
