Louise R. Hudson

Former longtime resident was nurse, bridge player


- — STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Louise R. Hudson, a resident of Sharon for more than 50 years, died after a long illness on Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, in State College, at the age of 91.

Born May 13, 1922, in Brookville, Pa., to Charlotte and David D. Reid, Louise graduated in 1943 from Western Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing.

Early in her career, she was a campus nurse at Westminster College, New Wilmington, and later held a similar position at the Shenango campus of Penn State University, Sharon, from 1971 until her retirement in 1983. She also was a private duty nurse at what is now Sharon Regional Health System while raising her three daughters.

Louise took great joy in playing bridge and belonged to several local bridge clubs. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Sharon.

Louise married Jack M. Hudson on Nov. 7, 1947; he predeceased her Jan. 26, 1987.

She is survived by her daughters, Lynda Hudson Beighley and her husband Jack, Chatham, N.J.; Barbara J. Hudson, Bellefonte, Pa.; and Marjorie J. Hudson, Irwin, Pa., as well as two grandsons, Matthew and Grant Beighley, both New York, N.Y.
