William E. White

Active Sharon church member was Mason

---- — ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — William E. White of the Masonic Homes, Elizabethtown, formerly of 401 McClure Ave., Sharon, died Monday morning (8-22-11) in the home after a long illness. He was 93.

Mr. White was born July 1, 1918, in Buffalo, N.Y., a son of Charles and Vera Guthrie White.

He was a 1936 high school graduate.

As a longtime active member of Oakland Avenue United Methodist Church in Sharon, he had served on the adminstrative council and, along with his wife, co-wrote the church newsletter for many years.

Bill was a member and past master of Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 250, Sharon, which merged with Kedron Lodge 389, West Middlesex. He served as secretary of the Sharon lodge for more than 20 years.

Bill was a Navy veteran, serving from 1937-39 on the Neutrality Patrol.

His wife, the former Shirley Ann Artman, whom he married Dec. 8, 1939, died April 5 of this year.

Surviving are: his daughters, Barbara Grassl and her husband Charles, Arlington, Texas; Robin McCanna and her husband Jim, Carlisle, Pa.; his sons, the Rev. William E. White Jr. and his wife Kathryn, Beaver Falls; and Roy A. White and his wife Delores, Easton, Pa.; his grandchildren, Laura McElroy and her husband Bob; Dianne Garner and her husband Paul; Rachel Edmiston and her husband Chip; Monica White; Greg White and his wife Lori; Hilary White, Kimberly White; Derek White and his wife Valerie; and Carrie White; his great-grandchildren, Bobby McElroy, Heather McElroy, Ryan McElroy, Sarah Garner, Ashleigh Garner, Jacob Edmiston, Joshua Edmiston, Ruth White, Emily White, Anjolina White, Gabriel Dellangelo, Eric Johnston, Annie Johnston and Charlotte White; and a sister, Jean Petrella, Aliquippa.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Phyllis Peiper; and brothers, Charles White and Alan White.

Service: Funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday (8-27-11) in Oakland Avenue United Methodist Church, Sharon, with the Rev. William E. White Jr, deceased’s son, officiating.

Interment: Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage.
