Iris S. Hackathorn

Slippery Rock resident was Grace U.M. member


---- — Iris S. Hackathorn of Slippery Rock died at 6 a.m. Monday (7-29-13) in Grove Manor, Grove City. She was 88.

A daughter of Clair L. and Helen M. Burdick Saylor she was born in Hillards, Butler County, on June 21, 1925.  

Iris was a 1942 graduate of Butler High School.

She retired in 1985 after eight years as an administrative assistant at the Butler VA.  

Previously she had worked underground at Boyers and at the former Bashline Hospital, Grove City.

Mrs. Hackathorn had been an active member of Grace United Methodist Church in Grove City, where she sang in the choir and was involved in their outreach programs. She enjoyed solving jigsaw puzzles, embroidering and caring for her dogs.

On Dec. 30, 1969, she married Clarence E. “Jake” Hackathorn. He died Oct. 12, 1977.

Surviving are a stepson, Thomas A. Hackathorn, Los Angeles; and two stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.  Several nieces and nephews complete her family.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
