Richard S. Merrow Sr. of Greenville, entered eternal rest at 12:05 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after a brief illness. He was 71.
Mr. Merrow was born Aug. 19, 1940, in Pittsburgh, a son to Woodrow J. and Mildred J. Cook Merrow.
He was proud to serve his country as an airman first class in the U.S. Air Force.
Following the service, he found employment with Unit Rail Anchor (Hubbard Tool), Pittsburgh, where he worked as a laborer for 10 years.
He met his wife, Eleanor L. “Ele” Carson on a blind date in Pittsburgh; they married on Feb. 9, 1963 and together raised two sons.
After moving to the valley, Rich took a job at Thiel College, Greenville, as a police officer. He achieved the position of lieutenant before his retirement after 26 years.
Coming from Pittsburgh, Rich was an avid sports fan, cheering on his Steelers, Pirates and Penguins. He also was a Civil War buff.
Survivors include his wife, Ele; his sons, Richard S. Merrow Jr. and his wife Melody, Kinsman, Ohio; and Robert E. Merrow and his wife Teresa, West Middlesex; and his six grandchildren, Trevor, Courtney, Robert, Madison, Jonathan and Richelle Merrow.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William H. Merrow.
