David Lynn Shaw

Grove City High ’58 grad liked gardening, tennis

David Lynn Shaw, of Grove City, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday (3-27-13) at 4:10 p.m. while at the VNA Hospice Center, Butler, Pa. He was 72.

He was born in Grove City to the late Gaylord Lynn and Ruth (Adams) Shaw on Sept. 26, 1940 in Grove City. David graduated from Grove City High School in 1958 and attended Grove City College. He married Shirley Mae Lawrence on Nov. 30, 1968 and they had 44 wonderfully happy years together.

David was a valuable employee of the Office of Personnel Management, later the Retirement Operations Center in Boyers, Pa. for more than 44 years where he worked first as a file clerk and later as a claims examiner.

A faithful member of Nashua Orthodox Presbyterian Church, Edinburg, Pa.  David loved singing hymns, providing a listening ear and praying for those in need around him.

David was a best friend to many and he enjoyed spending time in his gardens, playing tennis and spending as much time as possible with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, at home; one son, Kevin Shaw and his wife, Tammy, two grandchildren, Christopher and Julia, all of Grove City, and numerous friends and family who have been touched by this great man.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Gaylord Lynn Shaw Jr., and one sister, Janet Leila Shaw.

Calling hours: 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p .m. Monday (4-1-2013) at CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME Inc., 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City.

Service: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday (4-2-13) at the funeral home with the Rev. Steven Miller, pastor of the Nashua Orthodox Presbyterian Church, Edinburg, officiating.

Burial: South Plain Grove Cemetery.
