Ex-Mercer woman worked at Valu King, embroidered


---- — Betty I. Meade, formerly of Mercer, passed away peacefully of natural causes at 10 p.m. Wednesday (4-3-13) in Trinity Living Center, Grove City. She was 87.

Born Jan. 15, 1926, in Mercer, Mrs. Meade was a daughter of James D. and Anna E. Moyer Burns.

She was a graduate of Mercer High School.

In her early years, she worked at the former Isaly’s Dairy of Mercer, then worked many years in the deli and meat department at Sines Valu King of Mercer.

Betty was of the Methodist faith.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and loved growing flowers and doing embroidery work.

Her husband, Howard V. “Hud” Meade, whom she married May 7, 1945, preceded her in death Oct. 14, 2001.

She is survived by: a daughter, Bonita L. Staples and her husband Victor, Stoneboro; two sons, James M. Meade and his wife Pat, Cleveland; and David H. Meade, Grove City; three grandchildren, Tanya Higgins and her husband Chad, Cleveland; Joshua J. Staples and his wife Rachel, Stoneboro; and Michael Meade, Cleveland; and three great-grandchildren, Grace and Lilly Higgins; and Alexia Staples.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Stephanie L. Staples; a grandson, Chad Eric Staples; and three sisters.

Calling hours: 2 p.m. to time of service Sunday (4-7-13) in SCOTT A. BLACK FUNERAL HOME, 99 Franklin St., Stoneboro.

Service: Funeral service at 4 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home with Pastor Scott Benka of Solid Rock Assembly of God, Grove City, officiating.

Interment: Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hermitage.
