Gene S. ‘Skeeter’ Evanitz

Trucking company worker was avid sports fan, golfer

---- — Gene S. “Skeeter” Evanitz of 231 N. Broad St., Grove City, died unexpectedly at 9:16 p.m. Wednesday (4-3-13) in the emergency room at Grove City Medical Center, Pine Township, due to injuries he received while at work. He was 48.

Born Sept. 3, 1964, in Washington, Pa., Mr. Evanitz was a son of Stephen A. and Delores J. “Dee” Bock Evanitz.

He attended Franklin High School.

Skeeter was currently employed by Ward Trucking of Barkeyville as a truck driver and dock worker, where he had worked for several years.

In earlier years, Mr. Evanitz was a firefighter for Polk (Pa.) Fire & Rescue.

He was of the Protestant faith. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed attending local high school events and was also an avid Pens fan. He loved to golf and was a member of Grove City Country Club.

He enjoyed spending time with friends.

He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1895 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 519, both Grove City; and Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 145, Greenville.

Skeeter is survived by his mother, Dolores J. “Dee” Baker, Oil City; his father, Stephen A. Evanitz, Perryopolis, Pa.; a sister, Patty Segars and her husband Paul, Dothan, Ala.; two half sisters, Lucy Wellings, Washington, Pa.; and Nikki Evanitz, East Liverpool, Ohio; a brother, Raymond A. Evanitz and his companion Robynne Brock, Sandy Lake; a half brother, Stephen W. Evanitz, Bentleyville, Pa.; and a nephew, Steven B. Evanitz, Sandy Lake.

Calling hours: 3 p.m. to time of service Sunday (4-7-13) in the SANDY LAKE FUNERAL HOME OF SCOTT A. BLACK, 3236 S. Main St., Sandy Lake.

Service: Funeral service at 6 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home with the Rev. James G. Young, pastor, Methodists United In Faith, officiating.

Interment: Oak Hill Cemetery, Sandy Lake Township.
