Eva M. Short

‘To everything there’s a season and time’


---- — TIME TO BE BORN – Eva M. Scott Short of 333 Wallis Ave., Farrell, was born Sept. 9, 1929, to Isaac and Addie Wilson Scott. She was the eighth of 16 children.

A TIME TO LIVE – Eva grew up and was educated in Cheraw, S.C. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized in a creek and became a member of Old Zion Baptist Church in Montrose, S.C.

On July 19, 1948, Eva married Alonza Short Jr. and relocated to Farrell. From this union were born two daughters. She continued her Christian life at First Baptist Church of Farrell. Serving faithfully as a member, she worked dutifully as an usher, a nurse and on the kitchen committee.

Among her many talents were sewing and cooking. She enjoyed daily reading of The Herald newspaper in Sharon.

A TIME TO LOVE – Eva was loving and giving and raised many children who were not her own. Eva was loved by many special friends, gave selflessly and had unbending love for all who entered her life circle.

A TIME TO DIE – On Friday, April 5, 2013, in Sharon Regional Health System, a loving and caring God came to carry her home to rest. She is gone but not forgotten, for in all our hearts, Eva will live forever.

A TIME TO MOURN – Surviving to mourn her death are: her two daughters, Eva Short Gregory, Farrell; and Delores Short Ford, Sharon; four granddaughters, Chanda, Nikkia, Atlasia and Wenci; three great-grandchildren, Chaella, Alexis and Cherish; four sisters, Barbara Harrington, Edith Barton and Annette Leacock, all Cheraw; and Doris Rayford and her husband James, Milledgeville, Ga.; two brothers, Wilson Scott, Youngstown; and Londell Scott, Cheraw; a very special sister-in-law, Irene Burns, Farrell; a brother-in-law, James Short, Raleigh, N.C.; two special godchildren, Gary Stinson and Darwin Crumby; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alonza Short Jr., on Oct. 18, 2003; and two brothers and two sisters.

Service: Funeral service at noon Friday in the church with the Rev. C. Nolan Howell, pastor, officiating.

Burial: Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage.
