Sawhill retiree was Korean War veteran

— Ivan L. Kachelries, Hubbard, passed away Sunday (10-13-13) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System, Sharon. He was 83.

Ivan was born Aug. 28, 1930, in Niles, a son of Edward and Mary Walton Kachelries.

He was a 1949 graduate of East High School, Youngstown.

Ivan worked at Aeroquip in Youngstown as a rubber worker, and later at the Sawhill Tubular Divison of Armco Inc., Sharon, as a hot-rack operator for 46 years retiring in 1996.

He was a member of Gibson Heights Second Presbyterian Church of Youngstown, and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving during the Korean War.

His wife, the former Sally Newell, whom he married June 10, 1952, passed away March 1, 2002.

He is survived by his daughter Karen (Thomas) Zagorski of Hubbard; 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

He also leaves his sister, Joyce Halliday of Hubbard.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Ivan Edward Kachelries; a sister Mary Beatty; and two brothers, John Kachelries and William Kachelries.
