Eleanor Naomi Garity of Sharon passed away at 9:09 a.m. Saturday (10-19-13) after a brief illness. She was 92.
Mrs. Garity was born April 12, 1921, in Sharon, a daughter of James Garfield and Eleanor Gwendolyn Jones Johnston.
A lifelong area resident, she was a graduate of Sharon High School and a former business school.
Mrs. Garity began her career as a secretary at the former Sharon Steel Corp., Farrell, where she was employed for 20 years.
She then worked as a secretary for more than 10 years at the former Wiesen, Cusick, Madden and McKay law firm and retired from First National Bank in downtown Sharon, where she worked for several years.
Eleanor was a member of Community of Christ Church in Sharon.
She was a member of the Red Hat Society and Al-Anon.
Her husband, Joseph Aloysius Arthur Garity, preceded her in death on June 2, 1982.
Surviving are: two daughters, E. Jean Burkett and her husband Terry, Shawnee, Okla.; and Joan W. Hahn and her husband Charles, Hermitage; two sons, Dr. Don E. Johnson and his wife Polly, Austin, Texas; and John W. Miller and his wife Jayne, Largo, Fla.; a stepson, James Garity and his wife Judy, Henderson, Nev.; 16 grandchildren, Kelly Broesche, Trina Walker, John Garity, Tracy Hopkins, Jennifer Johnson, James Garity, Jayson Garity, Jamie Fekech, Tomi Lynn Ferguson, Scott Lewis, Eric Lewis, Erin Rose, Liza Smith, Emily Radachy, Edward Radachy and Brent Laird; 26 great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Helen Kear and her husband Robert, Sharon.
Besides her husband, Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents.
