John Randolph ‘Randy’ Cicen

Had career in higher ed, management consulting

AURORA, Ohio — John Randolph “Randy” Cicen, Aurora, entered into eternal life with Jesus Christ at 7:58 a.m. Tuesday (11-19-13) surrounded by his family. He was 71.

Mr. Cicen was born Jan. 14, 1942, in Sharon, a son of John Wesley Cicen and Anne Ferezon Cicen, both of whom have also entered into eternal life.

Randy was raised in both Farrell and Sharon and graduated from Sharon High School in 1959, where he was a National Merit Scholar, and where he met his wife of nearly 50 years, the former Nelle Marie Nicolls.

He matriculated to Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, and later to the University of Pittsburgh where he earned his bachelor of science in psychology and English. His postgraduate studies began at the University of Akron where he studied Industrial Psychology and Higher Education and he later graduated with a master’s degree in Counseling and Education from John Carroll University, University Heights, Ohio. He enjoyed attending both Sharon and Farrell High school reunions.

He taught for one year at Alliance (Ohio) High School before gaining employment at John Carroll University as registrar and Director of Placement. He later worked as the Director of Admissions at Gannon College (now University), Erie.

He left Gannon in 1972 to work for Bell and Howell Schools/DeVry Technical Institutes in Chicago, Ill., where he would stay until 1977.

He worked in many capacities for ASM International in Materials Park, Ohio, where he retired as the Director of Member Activities in Technical Divisions in 1993.

It was in 1993 that Randy opened JRC Associates in Aurora, Ohio, a successful Quality Management Systems Consulting business. He developed unique methodologies that served to guide organizations to become recognized as worldclass operations by successfully adopting and qualifying for certifications in the industry. Randy had a unique talent of making complex processes easy to understand by sharing his real world personal experiences.
