Chemical engineer was wrestler at Reynolds High


MORAGA, Calif. — A local memorial service has been planned for Thomas R. Gilson of Moraga. He died Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, in his home with his family after a two-year battle with cancer. He was 63.

Born Oct. 26, 1949, in Greenville to Duane and Elsie Willaman Gilson, Tom married Linda Mayes on Sept. 8, 1984.

Gilson is survived by: his wife, Linda, at home; twin daughters, Laura Gilson, Cambridge, Mass.; and Emily Gilson, Princeton, N.J.; his mother, Elsie Scofield, Hempfield Township; a sister, Jean Sankey and her husband Chad and family, Greenville; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Tom graduated in 1967 from Reynolds High School, where he was a member of the band, wrestling and track teams.

He graduated in 1972 from Michigan State University with a degree in chemical engineering and earned a master’s degree there a year later.

Tom had worked at OSI, Oakland, Calif.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Berkeley, Calif., where a memorial service waxheld on Aug. 30.

A local memorial service is set for 1 p.m. Nov. 9 in Greenville Alliance Church, 63 Conneaut Lake Road, Hempfield Township.
