John T. Priester

GATX millwright belonged to St. Joseph Church

---- — A private funeral service was held Wednesday for John T. Priester of Sharpsville, at his request. He passed away at 10:33 a.m. Saturday (8-24-13) in Select Specialty Hospital, Warren, Ohio, after an extended illness. He was 74.

Mr. Priester was born July 30, 1939, in Farrell, the only child of John and Magdalene Turzak Priester.

A lifelong area resident, he was raised in Farrell and was a member of Farrell High School’s graduating class of 1957.

He was employed at General American Transportation Corp.’s former Masury plant where he worked as a millwright. John later worked for several security agencies including Kilgore Detective and Security Services, Doyle Security, Pinkerton Security and Securitas Security Services USA.

He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Sharon.

John served his country as a U.S. Army Reservist and was honorably discharged Jan. 31, 1968, with six years of service to his country.

His wife, the former Dorothy J. McCracken, whom he married Sept. 5, 1958, survives at home.

He is also survived by: his sister-in-law, Barbara Lilly and her husband Richard, West Middlesex; three nieces, Linda Wencil and her husband William A. Wencil and family, and Bonnie Pope and family, all West Middlesex; and Kathy Lilly and family, Connecticut; and a special cousin, Helen Duffner, Deland, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert McCracken Jr. and Anne K. McCracken; his beloved brother-in-law, Robert J. McCracken; and his nephew, Richard G. Lilly Jr.

Service: At John’s request, a private funeral Mass was held Wednesday (8-28-13) in Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann’s Church, Farrell, with the Rev. Donald E. Berdis, pastor as celebrant.
