Henry ‘Uncle Bug’ Savage Jr.

Sharon man was a Green Thumb volunteer


---- — A funeral service celebrating the life of Mr. Henry ‘Uncle Bug’ Savage Jr. will be held at 11 a.m. Friday (9-6-13) at Greater Mt. Zion Church of God in Christ, Farrell.  Mr. Savage departed this life Saturday (8-31-13) at his residence in Sharon. He was 77.

Mr. Savage was born May 16, 1936, in Greenville, Ala., a son of Henry Claude and Ella Pressley Savage Sr. coming to the Shenango Valley many years ago. 

He worked various handyman jobs throughout town and often dedicated his time to the Green Thumb program with the Prince of Peace Center. 

He enjoyed playing cards and was known as the family comedian.

He leaves to cherish his memory his sister, Tilda Davis of Washington, DC; his caregiver, Lee Millhouse; his special niece, Denise Savage with whom he shared his home; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Joel Savage Sr.; two sisters, Arthur Jean and Arlene Savage.

Calling hours: Friends may call at the home of Denise Savage 842 Ravine Place Sharon, and the family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday (9-6-13) in Greater Mt. Zion Church of God in Christ, 1825 Roemer Blvd., Farrell.

Service: Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday in the church.

Burial: Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage.
