Tressa ‘Teedie’ Nichols Miller

Longtime country club baker owned beauty shop


---- — Tressa “Teedie” Nichols Miller, formerly of Rockwell Drive, Hermitage, passed away of natural causes and peacefully in her sleep on Friday (7-12-13) in Countryside Convalescent Home, East Lackawannock Township. She was 88.

Mrs. Miller was born Oct. 17, 1924, in Sharon, one of eight children of James Notarnicola Nichols and Mary DeMatteo Nichols.

She was raised in Sharon and graduated from Sharon High School.

Teedie began her working career at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. during World War II. She then earned her cosmetology license.

Teedie operated her own beauty parlor from her sister’s house, where she cut and permed hair.

She enjoyed baking at an early age and sold her homemade pizzas for $1 each at Sharon Country Club, where she was the baker for 20 years. She was best known for her coconut cream pies and bread pudding.

She was a member of Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage.

Mrs. Miller belonged to the North Sharon Fire Hall Women’s Auxiliary.

In her spare time, she enjoyed playing bingo at St. Joseph’s Church, Sharon, and visiting beaches along the Eastern seashore, having spent many vacations soaking up the sun between Cape May, N.J., and Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Her husband of 59 years, Fred Miller, whom she married Dec. 2, 1950, passed away Jan. 29, 2009.

She is survived by: two daughters, Mary Candace “Candy” Stimpson and her husband Ronald, Myrtle Beach,; and Bernadine Pompelia and her husband Samuel, Sharon; a son, Ronald Miller and his wife Maureen, Slippery Rock; a brother, John Nichols and his wife Grace, Hermitage; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Service: Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, in Church of Notre Dame, 2325 Highland Road, Hermitage, with the Rev. Jeffery J. Noble, pastor, as celebrant.
