Shenango Twp. woman helped run farm, did crafts


---- — Josephine Romain of Romain Road, Shenango Township, passed away at 8:15 p.m. Thursday, April 25, 2013, after a short illness. She was surrounded by her family. She was 95.

Mrs. Romain was born Feb. 4, 1918, in Ralphton, Pa., to John and Sophie Kobyra Zuhosky. The family moved to Masury, where Josephine resided until she married.

On July 23, 1938, she married Stanley Romain Sr. They built a house on his family’s farm, which is where Josephine resided the rest of her life. She helped Stanley tend to the farm and cattle they had.

When Josephine was younger, she worked at Jack’s Grill and a few other businesses as a cook and waitress.

Josephine was always willing to help prepare the meals for many family wedding receptions and family reunions. You could always find her in the kitchen.

She enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting and any kind of craft you could think of. She even created her own crafts that nobody had ever seen done before.

Surviving are her two sons, Stanley Romain Jr., Mercer; and Anthony “Tony” J. Romain and his wife Thelma, Pulaski; and eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband Stanley, who passed away Sept. 21, 2006, Josephine was preceded in death by her parents and nine siblings.

Calling hours: 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday (4-28-13) in SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 3126 Main St., West Middlesex.

Service: Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Monday (4-29-13) in Church of the Good Shepherd, West Middlesex, with Monsignor Robert M. Malene, pastor, as celebrant.

Interment: Will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hermitage.
