Donna Jean Rodgers of Hermitage passed away at 9:40 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013, in her home with her family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 54.
Mrs. Rodgers was born Donna Jean Cione, March 31, 1959, in Sharon to Richard and Frances DePreta Cione.
She graduated in 1977 from Farrell High School.
On May 20, 1978, she married John Scott Rodgers and together they had three children.
Donna attended Pennsylvania State University, where she was a member of the dean’s list every semester and graduated with highest honors, achieving a degree in early childhood education.
However, her greatest joy in life was being a wife and mother. She was most happy when she was spending time with her family and her beloved cat, Fred. She enjoyed cooking and baking almost as much as her family enjoyed her spaghetti and meatballs.
She especially loved going to tea with her daughter, Maria, and sister, Debbie; sitting by the fire; enjoying home-cooked Italian food with her son, Ian, and daughter-in-law, Mandy; listening to her son, Michael, play the guitar and sing her favorite songs; and taking car rides with her husband, John, to the country store in the mountains.
She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Cione; and her grandparents, Michael and Maria DePreta; and Joseph and Helen Cione.
She is survived by her husband, John Rodgers, Hermitage; her son, Ian Rodgers and his wife Amanda, Claridge, Pa.; her daughter and best friend, Maria Joseph and her husband Justin, Whitehall, Pa.; her son, Michael Rodgers, Nashville, Tenn.; her mother, Frances Cione, Farrell; and five siblings, Debbie and her husband Pat O’Donnell, Richard Cione, Mary and her husband Joe Tremmel, Joseph and his wife Lisa Cione, and Linda Klamer.
In lieu of flowers, Donna asked that memorial contributions be made to Wild4Ever, 4873 Richland Ave., Norton, OH 44203.
