Carol E. Zipay

Volunteer, retiree designed White House ornament

---- — WARREN, Ohio – Carol E. Zipay of Hartford Township died Tuesday, May 14, 2013, in the emergency room of Trumbull Memorial Hospital, Warren, after a short illness. She was 67.

Mrs. Zipay was born July 17, 1945, in Grove City, a daughter of George Edward Eastlick and Emma Louella Harvey Eastlick.

Carol was raised in Greenville and was a 1963 graduate of Reynolds High School. She then attended Youngstown State University and the Trumbull campus of Kent (Ohio) State University, where she studied liberal arts.

Carol retired in 2001 as a journeyman painter at Delphi Packard Electric Systems, Warren, Ohio, where she worked for 28 years.

She attended Grace Chapel Community Church in Hermitage and was a member of the Trumbull Art Guild (TAG).

Carol volunteered with the American Red Cross, working with disaster relief, blood drives and health fairs.

Carol loved animals, especially her beloved dogs and her favorite, Bo. She enjoyed camping, traveling, painting with acrylics and mixed media arts and interior design.

If there was an adventure in waiting, Carol would pursue it. She enjoyed cycling and had ridden on GOBA (Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure) and other cycling trips and participated in numerous half marathons and 5Ks with her husband, Bill.

Her design was selected for a White House Christmas tree ornament when President Bill Clinton was in office.

Carol is survived by her husband, William J. Zipay, whom she married Feb. 24, 1978; her daughter, Rhonda L. Zipay and her life partner Theresa Fox, Massillon, Ohio; and two brothers, James Eastlick and his wife Mary; and David Eastlick, all Greenville.

Her parents and a brother, Ed Eastlick, preceded her in death.

Memorial contributions may be made to Angels for Animals, 4750 W. South Range Road, Canfield, OH 44460; or Save-A-Mom Pregnant Dog Rescue, 1271 Downing St. SW, East Sparta, OH 44626.
