Mary E. Turner

Dean Dairy retiree was member of several groups


---- — Mary E. Turner, formerly of 653 Spencer Ave. and 1164 Sharpsville Ave., Sharon, passed away peacefully at 8:46 p.m. Thursday (5-16-13) in Countryside Nursing Home, East Lackawannock Township. She was 95.

Mrs. Turner was born Nov. 24, 1917, in McCullough, Penn Township, Westmoreland County, to Peter and Mary (Subasic) Bosnjak.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Sharon and served as head cook at the Sacred Heart school in the early 1960s. She was also a self-taught lab technician at Dean Dairy, where she worked for more than 20 years before retiring in 1982.

She enjoyed gardening, sewing, bowling, traveling and cooking. She was an avid quilter and a member of the Sacred Heart Quilters Guild. She also was a charter member of the North Sharon Fireman’s Auxiliary and belonged to the Sharon Football Mothers, the Salvation Army and the Dean Dairy retirees organization. She was active in numerous Bible study groups.

Her husband, John “Jim” Turner, whom she married Jan. 3, 1947, passed away July 20, 1970.

Surviving are: a son, Richard Turner and his wife, Patricia, Mercer; a grandson, John Turner, Shadyside, Pa.; a sister, Barbara and her husband Nick Holup, Sharon; and a cousin, Jamie Lynn Yajko, Wellsboro, Pa.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents, Peter and Mary Bosnjak; an infant sister, Dorothy Bosnjak; and her brothers John Bosnjak Sr., Frank Bosnjak, Thomas Bosnjak and Peter Bosnjak Sr.

Mary was a giving person who loved everyone and in turn was loved by everyone. She will be especially remembered for her delicious homemade chicken noodle soup. Mary will be missed by all of those lives she touched these past 95 years.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 660 Fisher Hill, Sharon.
