Ex-Farrell woman, poet was nurse, social worker

---- — DAYTON, Ohio – Nancy Lampkins-McNeal of Dayton, formerly of Farrell, passed away early Monday morning, June 10, 2013, in her home at age 68.

Mrs. Lampkins-McNeal was born May 22, 1945, in Farrell to James and Leah Belle Smith Lampkins.

Nancy was married to Ross McNeal of Farrell and was a graduate of Farrell High School.

She received her nurse’s aide certificate in 1964 from what was then Sharon General Hospital.

Nancy worked at various hospitals and in home health care.  She later graduated from Penn State with an associate’s degree in sociology and worked as a social worker at various social facilities.

She was a repentant Jehovah’s Witness and attended Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Dayton.

As a writer and a poet, Nancy’s poems were the highlight of many family gatherings.

She is survived by a sister, Betty Kirklin, Lakeland, Fla.; and two brothers, William Lampkins, Philadelphia; and Booker Lampkins, Columbus, Ohio.

She is also survived by her loving daughter, Benita Lampkins, Dayton; a granddaughter, Marquis Lampkins, Farrell; a grandson, Aukeem Williams, Warren, Ohio; four great-grandchildren, Malik, A´mierea, Gha´Fir and Lai´On, all Sharon; a special niece, Kishme Cameron and her husband Keith, Sharon; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Leah Lampkins; five brothers, Alfred, James Jr., Marion, Carl and Cecil; and four sisters, Rose Marie, Doris, Peggy and Ruby Victoria.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 6, in Shenango Valley Chamber of Commerce building, 41 Chestnut St., Sharon.
