Harlan E. Shaffer Sr.

Ohio mill retiree, active Mason had sons here


- — OCALA, Fla. – Harlan E. Shaffer Sr. of 6073 SW 104th Lane, Ocala, and 1649 Everett Ave., Youngstown, died at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, in Hospice Legacy in Ocala. He was 81.

Mr. Shaffer was born to Charles and Gladine Shaffer.

He retired after 35 years as an industrial plant supervisor at Industrial Steel, Youngstown.

Harlan was a member of Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 389, West Middlesex; Scottish Rite’s New Castle Consistory; Zem Zem Shrine, Erie; and Mercer County Shrine Club, where he was a member and served as captain of the Wheel Patrol. He was also a member of the Royal Order of Jesters Court 58 in Erie.

He is survived by his lady, Janet Barger; his sons, Don Shaffer, Clarks Mills; and Harley Shaffer and his wife Lucille, Transfer; and five granddaughters, two grandsons, five great-granddaughters and five great-grandsons.

Harlan also leaves three nephews and two nieces.
