Adam Puhl Jr.

Sharon Steel retiree was Yugoslav native, Reservist

- — A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday for Adam Puhl Jr. of Strawbridge Ave., Sharon. He passed away peacefully at 10:25 a.m. Wednesday (3-5-14) in his residence  after an extended illness. He was 79.

Mr. Puhl was born Oct. 25, 1934, in Krndija, Yugoslavia, one of five children born to Adam Puhl Sr. and Maria Grosseibl Puhl.

He immigrated to the United States at the early age of 17 in January 1952.

Adam served with the Army from 1957 to 1959 at Fort Knox, Ky., and was honorably discharged. As an Army Reservist, he served four years at the Army Reserve Pendel-Caminiti unit, 858th Quartermaster, Farrell.

He retired with 40 years of service from the former Sharon Steel Corp.’s Farrell plant, where he worked in its 60-inch Cold Roll mill as both a roll grinder and car blocker.

He was a member of St. Anthony’s Church and Apollo Maennerchor Club, both Sharon; and the Croatian American Citizens Civic Club in Farrell, where he enjoyed playing euchre.

A loving father and grandfather, he enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He will be sadly missed.

His wife, the former Patricia Wolgast, whom he married Sept. 2, 1961, in St. Anthony’s Church, Sharon, survives at home.

He also leaves: his son, Michael “Mickey” Puhl and his companion Charlotte “Cathy” Reaver; his daughter, Kathy Falconi and her husband Thomas; and his grandchildren, Vincent, Kelsey and Kaitlyn Falconi, all Sharpsville; two brothers, Anton Puhl and his wife Juliann, West Middlesex; and John Puhl and his wife Eileen, Hermitage; and a sister, Elizabeth Milo and her husband Kerry, West Middlesex.

Adam also leaves many nieces, nephews and godchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Theresa Puhl.

For all of their care and support during Adam’s illness, his family would like to thank Sharon Regional Health System’s Cancer Care Center, Dr. George Garrow, Dr. Mukhtar Hassan, Dr. Dennis E. Ulewicz and his kind staff, Dr. Gregory George, and Adam’s caregiver, Dee Dee. It was truly appreciated.

A special “Danke Schoen” to our family and friends, God bless all of you.

His family suggests that anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution in his memory to please consider St. Anthony’s Church, 804 Idaho St., Sharon, PA 16146.
