- — Joseph “Chic” R. Chizmar, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, died Friday (3-14-14) in Vista Center in Mineral Ridge, Ohio. Formerly he made his home on Haig Street, Sharon, until his wife, Maxine’s death in 2010. It was his “little corner of the world.” He was 94.

Mr. Chizmar was born on Sept. 15, 1919, in Sharon, a son of Michael and Anne (Platko) Chizmar. He graduated from Sharon High School in 1937.

He married Emma Maxine (Marsteller) Chizmar on Sept. 12, 1942, and they enjoyed 67 wonderful years together. They had four children, three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Chizmar was a long time member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Sharon.

He was a member of the F.O.P. for many years. He also enjoyed being a member of the Penn-Ohio Singers. He joined when he was 80 years old, and the Singers always brought a smile to his face when they came to sing at Vista Center.

He enjoyed making wine, gardening, fishing, and spending time with his family, especially Sunday trips to Lake Erie. Every day he did the crossword puzzle and Jumble game in The Herald. He loved “chasing trains” with his son, John. He could fix anything and everything. For several years he and his wife, Maxine, enjoyed spending their winters in Florida with family and friends.

Chic was very much loved by his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who will cherish their memories and time spent with him.

He is survived by two daughters, Kathryn A. (Chizmar) Collovecchio and her husband Sam, Warren, Ohio; and M. Jo (Chizmar) Hanahan, Senatobia, Miss.; a son, John J.
