Fred T. Jennings

CB&I retiree owned Greenville hotel with wife

- — Mr. Jennings was born Oct. 13, 1923, in Sharpsville to Fred W. and Eva M. Tedrow Jennings.

He attended Sharpsville schools.

Fred had been employed for 31 years as a press operator at the Chicago Bridge and Iron Co.’s former Hempfield Township plant and had previously worked at the former Greenville Steel Car Co.

In addition, alongside his wife they were the owners and operators of Fred & Mary’s Hotel in Greenville.

Mr. Jennings served in the U.S. Navy in the Mediterranean Sea during the invasion of Northern France during World War II.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7599, Reynolds; Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 276 and Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 145, both Greenville; and had been a past member of the Italian Home Club, also Greenville.

Fred was an avid golfer and bowler for many years. He had recorded two holes-in-one and had volunteered at the Hickory VFW Golf Course.

As a bowler, he and his wife were active participants in the St. Michael’s Church couples league.

Fred loved to watch and root for his beloved Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians.

His wife, the former Mary A. Selnekovic, whom he married June 24, 1949, survives at home.

Also surviving are: three daughters, Shirley A. Kerpan and her husband William; and Susan McDeavitt and her companion Randy Beatty, all Greenville; and Monica Kraml, Kinsman, Ohio; three sons, Dennis Banic and his wife Bonnie; Thomas Jennings and his companion Nancy Palmer; and David Jennings and his wife Diane, all Greenville; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Agnes Hixon, Katherine Davenport, Elizabeth Boyd and Martha McCartney; three brothers, Blaine Jennings, Robert Jennings and Herman Jennings; and a son-in-law, Michael Kraml.

Memorial contributions may be made to the endowment Fund of St. Michael’s School, 85 N. High St., Greenville, PA 16125.
