Ralph M. Campbell of Grove City, formerly of Lake Road, Mercer, passed away at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2014, in Trinity Living Center, Grove City, after a six-week illness. He was 83.
Mr. Campbell was born Sept. 1, 1930, in Mercer to Edwin C. Campbell Sr. and Martha Evelyn Mowry Campbell.
Ralph was a graduate of Mercer High School, class of 1948. Following high school, he served in the Air Force from 1949 to 1952 in its intelligence division.
He earned his bachelor of arts degree in teaching from what was then Slippery Rock State College, class of 1956; and received his master’s from the University of Pittsburgh in 1958.
Ralph was a social studies teacher at the junior high school in West Allegheny School District, where he was employed for 28 years. He retired in 1983.
He was of the Protestant faith.
Ralph was an ardent sports enthusiast, enjoying the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pitt football and basketball. He always attended Opening Day for the Pirates.
He traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe during his life.
Surviving are two sisters, Shirley Baker and her husband William, West Middlesex; and Betty Sopher and her husband Thomas, Grove City; a brother, Robert Campbell and his wife Helen, Belleville, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Alice “Joyce” King and Dorothy Walters; two brothers, Edwin C. Campbell Jr. and Donald Campbell; and a sister-in-law who was special to Ralph, Phyllis Campbell.
Memorial contributions may be made in Ralph’s memory to any charitable organization benefiting veterans.

Service: Memorial service at 1 p.m. Monday (4-28-14) in E.J. Fithian Chapel of Tower Presbyterian Church, 248 S. Broad St., Grove City, with the Rev. Amy Worline, chaplain of Trinity Living Center, Grove City, officiating.
