Regina Miess

Native of Romania co-owned Farrell bakery

- — A funeral service will be held Thursday for Regina Miess of Valley View Road, Sharpsville. She passed away at 5:55 a.m. Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, following a brief illness, with her family at her side. She was 88.

Mrs. Miess was born Feb. 7, 1925, in Rode, Romania, to George and Katharina Guni Orr.

On April 25, 1946, she married John Miess Sr. Mrs. Miess and her husband proudly owned and operated the former Macedonia Bakery on Spearman Avenue in Farrell for 35 years. They operated the family-owned bakery from 1956 until their retirement in 1991. He passed away April 15, 1997.

She was a member of Clark Trinity United Methodist Church and the Saxon Club in Farrell.

Regina loved traveling throughout Europe, which she enjoyed numerous times with her husband. She loved cooking shows, reading, dining out with her daughter Gina, and watching NASCAR. She was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and most of all cherished time spent with her family. She loved when her grandchildren would visit her.

Regina is survived by her daughter, Regina “Gina” and her husband Charles Shook, Sharpsville; a sister, Sarah and her husband George Alzner, Columbus, Ohio; and five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, John Miess Sr., she was preceded in death by her father, George Orr; her mother, Katharina Orr; her son, John Miess Jr.; a sister, Katharine Kramer; and her brother, George Orr.

She will be sadly missed by her family.
