Rudy Turcic

Werner retiree, Marines vet struck out Willie Mays

---- — A funeral service will be held Saturday for Rudy Turcic of 189 Hadley Road, Greenville. He passed away at 3:18 a.m. Sunday (7-7-13) in his residence after a brief illness. He was 81.

Mr. Turcic was born May 6, 1932, in Greenville to Vincent and Agnes Krajovic Turcic.

He attended Greenville schools and was of the Protestant faith.

Mr. Turcic retired from the former R.D. Werner Co., Sugar Grove Township, with 42 years service as an inspect pack supervisor.

He was a veteran of the Marine Corps, serving from 1953 to 1955. During his Marines tenure, Mr. Turcic struck out Willie Mays, who was serving in the Army on the service baseball team.

He was a member of Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 276, Greenville.

Rudy was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, camping and gardening. He had an interest in business news.

He enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren and his cat, Koko.

With his wife, the former Ruth L. Gray, whom he married July 1, 1955, Rudy spent more than 20 winters in Lake Wales. Fla. Ruth passed away May 15, 2011.

Surviving are: a son, Ronald Turcic and his wife Patty, Greenville; a daughter, Roxann E. Williams and her husband Steven, Hadley; a brother, William Turcic, Greenville; two sisters-in-law, Emogene Turcic and Connie Gray; his grandchildren, Steven A. Williams and his wife Michelle, Stoneboro; Christopher L. Williams and his wife Molly, Cape Cod, Mass.; and Stephanie Barnhart; a great-granddaughter, Emily Williams, Cape Cod; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a  brother, Frank; a sister-in-law, Delores Turcic; and a brother-in-law, Martin Gray Jr.

Calling hours: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday (7-12-13) in ANDREW J. VANA FUNERAL HOME, 102 Church St., Hadley.

Service: Funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday (7-13-13) in Chaney Memorial Chapel at Hadley Cemetery with the Rev. John Canon, pastor of Jerusalem Christian Church, Otter Creek Township, officiating.

Interment: Hadley Cemetery, with military honors presented following the funeral service at cemetery by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3374, Hempfield Township.
