Robert ‘Bob’ C. Heim

Westinghouse retiree was musician, hunter, bowler

---- — Robert “Bob” C. Heim passed away peacefully at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2013, in his residence in Sharpsville. He was 90.

Mr. Heim was born Sept. 18, 1922, in Trevorton, Pa., to Charles and Minnie Hoke Heim.

He was a graduate of Wiconisco (Pa.) High School class of 1939.

Robert was first employed in the torpedo division of the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. and retired after 37 years as a foreman in the H Building.

In 1944, he married Kathleen Murphy, who passed away in 1961. On Aug. 14, 1965, he married Lawanda Lewis, who passed away Jan. 14 this year.

He was a member for more than 60 years of First United Methodist Church, Sharpsville.

A musician, he played various stringed instruments but excelled on the tenor banjo. He was a life member of the former Local 187 of Sharon Musicians Association. Robert played with the Keystone Pioneers and Rocking Chair County Bands. He also played with the Butler area Memories In Music. On Oct. 15, 2011, Bob was inducted into the Shenango Valley Jamboree Hall of Fame.

He was a lifelong hunter and bowler. Robert was a Free and Accepted Mason and life member of Zem Zem Shrine in Erie. He was also a life member of the Mercer County Shrine Club’s Wheel Patrol.

Robert is survived by: his daughter, Sharyn “Sherry” Diurba, Sharon; two grandsons, Richard Diurba, Omaha, Neb.; and Robert Diurba, Sharon; two great-grandsons, Richard Diurba and Jacob Diurba; two brothers, Henry Heim and his wife Kathryn, New Cumberland, Pa.; and Ralph Heim and his wife Mary Lou, Columbia, Md.; and a sister, Barbara Snyder, Lykens, Pa.

Besides his first wife, Kathleen, and his second wife, Lawanda, he was preceded in death by his father, Charles Heim; his mother, Minnie Heim; a sister, Hilda Heim; and a brother, Wilmer Heim.

Service: Funeral services at noon Thursday in the funeral home with the Rev. Lee Weber officiating. All are welcome to attend a musical tribute by Robert’s fellow musicians following services Thursday in Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6404, Sharpsville.

Interment: Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hermitage.
