Sylvan M. Byler

Perry Township dairy farmer was woodworker

- — Born Nov. 12, 1960, in Dover, Del., he was the oldest son of Mahlon S. and Fannie A. Byler.

Mr. Byler was a dedicated woodworker by trade and also was a dairy farmer in Perry Township for many years.

Survivors include: his wife at home, Emma Lena (Nissley) Byler, whom he married Nov. 22, 1979; a daughter, Sylvia S. Byler, at home; five sons, Matthew S. Byler and his wife Katie Mae, Reuben S. Byler and his wife Emma, and Simon S. Byler and his wife Sharon, all Greenville; Ivan S. Byler and his wife Nettie, Clare, Mich.; and Nathan S. Byler, at home; 12 grandchildren; six sisters, Sadie Hershberger and her husband Raymond, and Mary Ann Miller and her husband James, all of Clare; Ada Miller and her husband Rudy, Greenville; Gertie Troyer and her husband Melvin, and Esther Byler, all Fredonia; and Elvesta Schwartz and her husband David, Springboro, Pa.; six brothers: William M. Byler and his wife Mattie (Hershberger), of Clare; Ervin M. Byler and his wife Lydia (Miller), Malone, N.Y.; Lester M. Byler and his wife Esther (Yoder), Seymour, Iowa; Ivan M. Byler and his wife Rhoda (Hershberger), Rudy M. Byler and his wife Rebecca (Nissley), and Mahlon M. Byler Jr. and his wife Rachel (Nissley), all of Fredonia.

Mr. Byler was preceded in death by his father and three grandchildren, Steven M. Byler, Jonathon M. Byler and Laura Rose Byler.

Calling hours: Family will receive visitors all day and evening today (12-3-13) in the family home at 144 Laver Road, Perry Township.

Service: Funeral service at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday (12-4-13) in the Menno Yoder residence, 482 Fredonia-Hadley Road, Greenville, with Enoch N. Byler officiating.

Interment: Amish Cemetery, Fairview Township, Fredonia.

Arrangements by SCOTT A. BLACK FUNERAL HOME, 99 Franklin St., Stoneboro.
