James ‘Jim’ Earl Blackburn

Ex-local man, Navy veteran earned Purple Heart


---- — GUTHRIE, Okla. – James “Jim” Earl Blackburn, Chief Petty Officer, of Guthrie, was called up to the Lord on Friday, Feb. 15, 2013. He was 84.

Mr. Blackburn was born Dec. 5, 1928, in Halfmoon Township, Centre County, Pa.

He was a former resident of Greenville before moving to Guthrie in 1998.

Jim served in the Navy for 30 years and was a recipient of a Purple Heart.

He was a beloved brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Mae Blackburn, in May 1993; his son, Timothy Lambert Blackburn, in March 2011; his brother, Samuel E. Blackburn, in June 2007; his sister, Ruth Bloom, in May 2012; and his parents, Robert Blackburn and Emily Blackburn; and stepmother, Helen Hoover-Blackburn.

He is survived by his son, James M. Blackburn; daughters, Diane Goodyear, Linda Seely, Emilie Blackburn, Yolanda Blackburn, Yovonne Coburn and Yozelle Blackburn; and 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Service: Graveside services at 2 p.m. Wednesday (6-19-13) at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 2619 E. State St., Hermitage, with the Rev. C. Charles Eckles officiating. Veterans of Foreign Wars Hickory Post 6166, Hermitage, will present an honor guard.
