James J. Hoovler

WWII vet, farmer worked for Trinity Industries

---- — James J. Hoovler, 494 Mercer Road, Hempfield Township, passed away at 7:20 p.m. Monday (6-17-13) in Avalon Springs Nursing Center, Coolspring Township. He was 87.

He was born Jan. 6, 1926, in Sharpsville, to Roy and Tresa Myers Hoovler.

He married the former Dorothy M. Krumpak on Sept. 27, 1952. She survives.

A 1944 graduate of the former Fredonia High School, he was a paratrooper in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1944 to 1946.

He was employed for 23 years in the punch room of the former Trinity Industries, Greenville Rail Car Division.

He was also a self-employed farmer.

He was a member of St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, Greenville.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by: a daughter, Linda Kifer and her husband Michael of Hermitage; two sons, Thomas M. Hoovler and his wife Kenda, Fredonia; and Gary J. Hoovler and his wife Anne, Sylvania, Ohio; and four sisters, Jennie Shacklock, Veronica Nagy, Margaret Forney and Dorothy Wasser and her husband Charles, all of Greenville.

He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Kenneth Hoovler and his wife Amanda, Trichelle Eddy and her husband Matt, Peter Hoovler, Casey Hoovler, Bethany Kifer, Mikey Kifer and Rebecca Kifer; and one great-grandson, Corran Hoovler.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Rosemary Holzapfel, Lida Bartel, Josephine O’Leary and Stella Baker; and a brother, Harry Hoovler.
