Otto J. Ammer Sr., of 300 S. Stonebase Road, East Lackawannock Township (New Wilmington), passed away at 2:10 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Southwestern Veterans Center, Pittsburgh, after an extended illness with dementia. He was 82.
Mr. Ammer was born in Ross Township, Allegheny County, on June 21, 1931, to Otto E. Ammer and Marie Wittensoldner Ammer.
Otto married Mary Parquette Ammer on Oct. 20, 1990.
He was a self-employed farmer and a truck driver for Yourga, Jones Motor and Nestle.
He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Mercer.
Mr. Ammer also was a member of Sharpsville Masonic Blue Lodge and a 32nd degree member of Zem Zem Shrine in Erie, where he was a clown. He participated in many parades and visited the Shriners Children’s Hospital in Erie, where he often entertained the patients with his balloon creations. He was never without a pocket full of balloons.
Otto attended Mercer Area High School and served in Germany with the Army during the Korean conflict.
He is survived by his wife, Mary L. Ammer, at the residence; a daughter, Deborah Ammer, Cleveland; three sons, Samuel Ammer and his wife Jennifer, Sharon; Otto Jacob Ammer Jr. and his wife Debbie, Mercer; and George Ammer, at the residence; four stepchildren, Jeffrey Rust, Grove City; Sheri and her husband Dorsey Hipps, Grove City; Martin Rust and his wife Nicole, Mercer; and Gina and her husband Doug Shaffer, Harrisville; five brothers, Dr. John Ammer and his wife Joan in Pittsburgh; Robert Ammer, Lawrenceville, Ind.; Dr. Raymond Ammer and his wife Judy, Hermitage; and R. Joseph Ammer, Germany; and James Ammer, at the residence; one granddaughter; and four stepgrandchildren
Mr. Ammer was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; and his first wife, Marjorie Frost Ammer.

Burial: All Saints Cemetery, Jefferson Township.
