Velma DeJulia

Avid reader had children living in Shenango Valley


- — FRANKLIN -- Velma DeJulia of 1107 Otter St., Franklin, entered into the arms of Jesus at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, in her residence. She was 74.

Born Nov. 5, 1939, in Philipsburg, Pa., Mrs. DeJulia was a daughter of Joseph and Gaynelle Brown Peters.

Velma attended Penn State University and graduated with an associate’s degree.

She was an avid reader and read 999 books on her Kindle e-reader this past year.

She enjoyed nature and spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was very easygoing and easy to talk to.

On May 23, 1956, she married Loreto DeJulia; he preceded her in death July 12, 2002.

Surviving are: four children, Tony DeJulia and his partner Nancy Schuster, and Lori Ann DeJulia and her partner Robert Hoffman, all Sharon; John DeJulia and his partner Heather Craig, Sharpsville; and Donna DeJulia and her partner Michelle Finnecy, Oil City.

Also surviving are: eight grandchildren, Tony DeJulia Jr., Cortney DeJulia, Desiree DeJulia, Jason Laverty, David Johnson Jr., Leanna Johnson Saul, Dakota DeJulia and Sierra DeJulia; and eight great-grandchildren.

Additionally she is survived by her best friends since childhood, Sandra “Stickle” Mezaros and Norma “Beanie” Beni; and four very special friends, Wanda DeJulia, Jimmy Johnson, Betty DeJulia and Lisa Marie Garfoli.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two great-grandchildren, three sisters, a brother and her beloved dog, cool hand “Luke.”

Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to help the family with funeral expenses.
