Phyllis J. Beggs, 76, of Georgetown Road, Sandy Lake (New Vernon Township) passed away peacefully at home with her family at 6:23 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2013.
Born Aug. 6, 1936, in Greenville, she was a daughter of Ira Merle and Cora Grace James Stallsmith.
She was a 1954 graduate of the former Sandy Lake High School.
Mrs. Beggs had worked as a nurse’s aide at Meadville City Hospital and at the former Bashline Osteopathic Hospital, Grove City. She retired in 1991 from the custodial department at Polk Center, where she worked for 11 years.
She had attended Fairfield Presbyterian Church and was a member of their Ladies Missionary Society. She was a member of New Lebanon Community Church.
Phyllis had been a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 429, Meadville; and a member of New Vernon Grange.
In her earlier years, she and her husband enjoyed traveling, camping and bluegrass music. In her later years she enjoyed baking and sharing with others, needlepoint and social activities, especially “game night” at home and at Lakeview Manor of Stoneboro. She also enjoyed going out with friends to listen to local gospel music programs. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.
Her husband, William E. “Billy” Beggs, whom she married Nov. 28, 1963, preceded her in death Aug. 19, 1997.
Survivors include three daughters, Edith L. Cooper, Gail E. Beggs and Cheryl E. Rowland and her husband Stephen, all Sandy Lake; four grandchildren, DuWayne Cooper, Amanda Riordan, Kaitlynn Best and Porter “PJ” Rowland; and a sister, Grace Geraldine “Gerry” Wages, Grove City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and an infant son.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests those wishing to make monetary contributions in her memory make them to the funeral home to be used for social activities at Lakeview Manor.

Service: Funeral and committal services at 5 p.m. Sunday in the church with the Rev. Virginia LaVan Gadsby, associate pastor, officiating.
Interment: Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Pa., where she will be laid to rest with her husband Bill.
