Donald N. Ondo

Cemetery caretaker retired from state police


- — A funeral service will be held Monday for Donald N. Ondo of Grove City. He passed away at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2014, in Grove City. He was 70.

Mr. Ondo was born April 13, 1943, in Homestead, Allegheny County, to Nick and Anna Lesko Ondo.

He was a graduate of Munhall High School class of 1961. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1962 to 1966.

Mr. Ondo retired in January 1994 from Pennsylvania State Police where he was a trooper since March of 1968. He spent most of his career working from the Mercer Barracks. Following retirement, Don was the caretaker at Woodland Cemetery, Grove City.

He was a member and deacon of Leesburg Presbyterian Church.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his grandchildren.

His wife, the former Kathleen E. Rose, whom he married June 26, 1971, passed on Nov. 26, 2004.

Surviving are: two children, Kimberly “Kim” Connor and her husband Jeff, Wheeling, W.Va.; and Nicholas P. Ondo and his wife Megan, Sharon; 12 grandchildren, Sam, Jordan, Trent, Calvin, Joel, Titus, Tessa, Madeline and Ben Connor; and Nicholas, Annika and Brock Ondo; and a brother, Bill Ondo and Ruth Ann, Pittsburgh.

Besides his wife, Kathy, Don was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert and Jack Ondo.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Calling hours: 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday (4-6-14) in CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME Inc., 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City.

Service: Funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday (4-7-14) in Leesburg Presbyterian Church, 1831 U.S. Route 19, with the Rev. Thomas Gomola, pastor, officiating.

Interment: Woodland Cemetery, Grove City.
