C. Evelyn Waid

Grace UM Church member operated beauty shop


- — C. Evelyn Waid of Grove City, passed away at 8:36 a.m. Thursday, April 3, 2014, in her residence after an extended illness. She was 90.

Mrs. Waid was born Dec. 28, 1923, in Worth Township to John and Alice M. Hillkirk Lean.

She owned and operated Evelyn’s Beauty Shop from her home for the past 62 years.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Grove City, and its XL Sunday School Class.

Evelyn was an avid sports fan, especially of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers, and WWE wresting.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at the family cottage at Pymatuning Lake.

Her husband, Glenn Z. Waid, whom she married Feb. 1, 1947, passed away May 9, 1998.

Surviving are: a daughter, Bonnie L. Hoffman and her husband Dan, Waterford; two granddaughters, Michele Rose and her husband Michael, Erie; and Bethany Dice and her husband David, Pittsburgh; three great-grandchildren, Noah and Katy Rose and Logan Dice; and a sister, Alice King and her husband Earl, Millbrook.

Besides her husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Lawrence M. “Tuge” Lean, John W. Lean, Nathan “Dike” Lean and James R. Lean; and four sisters, Ruth E. Heasley, Rhoda Jones, Dorothy Frantz and Mary Griffin.

Memorial contributions may be made in Evelyn’s memory to Family Hospice and Palliative Care, 1965 Shenango Valley Freeway, Hermitage, PA 16148.

Calling hours: 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday (4-6-14) in CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME Inc., 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City.

Service: Funeral service at 1 p.m. Monday (4-7-14) in the funeral home with the Rev. Willard Morse, visitation pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, Grove City, officiating.

Interment: Oak Hill Cemetery, Sandy Lake Township.
