HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Charlene Kathryn Eakin Walls of South Point, Ohio, formerly of Grove City, passed away peacefully at 5:55 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2014, in Huntington. She was 69.
Although she lost a hard-fought battle with liver and kidney disease, she spent her last days viewing the Ohio River, which she loved so much, surrounded by many family members and friends celebrating her life.
Ms. Walls was born June 23, 1944, in Grove City, the second daughter of the late Kenneth Raymond Eakin Sr. and Jean Louise Williamson Eakin. She was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Roy Hannick.
Charlene is survived by: a daughter, Kenna Jean and her husband Billy McCallister; three sisters, Carolyn Hannick, Sinetta and her husband Dean Maul, and Diana and her husband Rich McKnight; a brother, Kenneth “Ray” Eakin Jr. and his wife Judy; her three grandchildren, Makenlee Kathryn, Maleah Karolyn and Kaleb Michael McCallister; a goddaughter, Rhonda and her husband Brian Hess and children; a stepgranddaughter she loved as her own, Marissa Walls; eight nieces; a nephew; five great-nieces; and a great-nephew.
After spending her childhood days moving from Grove City to Dayton, Ohio, and Charleston, W.Va., Charlene landed in Huntington for much of her young adulthood and settled across the river in South Point.
She was a self-employed beautician for more than 45 years, beloved by her clients, young and old. From teaching a toddler that hair clippers are not scary to making a customer “beautiful” one last time, Charlene was admired for her work, and she quickly became friends with each person who sat in her chair.
Through the years, Charlene gained numerous friends who held a special place in her heart. She was loved by all who knew her no matter the time or distance apart.
In lieu of flowers, her family requests live plants or a donation sent to the funeral home to offset recent medical-related expenses.
Charlene Kathryn Eakin, 69, South Point, Ohio, formerly of Grove City.
