Frank E. Baker

Retiree served on county, Findley Township boards

- — Frank E. Baker, a resident since 1980 of Findley Township (Mercer), passed away at 12:50 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2014, in Grove Manor, Grove City. He was 89.

Mr. Baker was born Dec. 23, 1924, in Springfield Township to Paul Edward and Helen Edith Cribbs Baker.

He retired in 1987 after 30 years of employment with Tennessee Gas Pipeline and formerly worked at Willis Bissett Chevrolet, Mercer.

A World War II veteran, Mr. Baker served with the Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Grove City.

Frank enjoyed farming, flying and Christian and community service and was active in Scouting.

He formerly served on Mercer County Board of Elections and Findley Township Zoning Board.

His wife, the former Esther K. Kalajainen, whom he married June 18, 1949, survives at home.

Also surviving are: five children, Michael E. Baker and his wife Geneva, Corry; Patricia Ann Sexton and her husband Joseph, Fairfield, Wash.; Michelle Rae and her husband Wagner, Ravena, N.Y.; Frank E. “Pete” Baker, Mercer; and Monica Kay Kurzejeski and her husband H. Walter, Troy, N.Y.; a sister, Helen Zambino, Grove City; and 13 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Baker; and four brothers, Charles, Gene, Russell and Glenn Baker.

Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 819 Columbia Ave., Grove City, PA 16127; or Mercer Chapter of Boy Scouts.

Calling hours: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday (4-14-14) in CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME Inc., 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City; and 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday (4-15-14) in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 819 Columbia Ave., Grove City.

Service: Funeral service at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the church, followed by military rites.
