Ada Jane Calvin

Former Sharpsville woman was nurse aide, volunteer


- — Ada Jane Calvin of  21607 Golden Drive, Meadville, formerly of Sharpsville, passed away peacefully at 2 p.m. Saturday (4-12-14) in Rolling Fields Nursing Home, Conneaut, Pa. She was 92.

She was born April 25, 1921 to William J. and Ada (Parks) Allison in New Bethlehem, Pa.

Ada graduated from Hickory High School, class of 1940.

She worked as a nurses’ aide for what is now Sharon Regional Health System, Mercer County Home, and private duty.

On Oct. 15, 1940, Ada married the late Lee Calvin, who passed away in 1989.

She was of the Nazarene faith.

Ada volunteered at the Salvation Army and was a member of Artcraft Homemakers Association, Sharpsville; a 4-H leader and a Sunday school teacher. She also enjoyed writing poetry and music, sewing and gardening.  

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Lee Calvin; three sisters, Pansey Scott, Lucille Bertolasio and Thera Cooley; and five brothers, Russell Allison, Kenneth Allison, George Allison, Bert Allison and Raymond Allison.

Ada is survived by her daughter, Barbara A. Child, Meadville; a sister, Betty (George) Sember, Sharpsville; a sister-in-law, Jean Allison, Sharpsville; and three grandchildren, Stephen Litwiler, Curtis Dunkerley and Lee Litwiler. Also surviving are six great-grandchildren.
