Donald L. “Goose” Talbert, of 562 Sherman Ave., Sharon, departed this life on Friday, April 11, 2014, in his home surrounded by his children. He was 78.
Goose was born Sept. 3, 1935, in McCormick, S.C., to Frank Talbert and Lar Lunta Holloway Talbert.
Goose was an outstanding basketball player in Farrell High School and continued that journey at Mount Union College. He was also an avid bowler. He played in various leagues and traveled to local and regional tournaments.
Goose was a sports junkie, but he loved the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Goose worked at GHTX until it closed its doors in 1988, and then he ventured to the former Sharon Steel for five years and then Trinity Steel as a guard for two more years until he decided to retire for good.
Goose was a lifelong member of Valley Baptist Church, Farrell. He was inspired listening to his pastor, T. James Harrison, and was a proud member of his Amen Corner. He enjoyed working crossword puzzles and reading the newspaper. He enjoyed his children, his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren.
Goose was a former member of the Twin City Elks where he held various positions.
Surviving are: seven daughters, Evangelist Theresa L. (Keith) Bryant; Darla Talbert; and Sonya Allen, all of Sharon; Cheryl Locke; Mary L. Talbert; and Amber Chambers, all of Farrell; and Stephanie (Brian) Quinn, Haymarket, Va.; three sons, Donald V. Talbert; and Brandon Chambers, both of Farrell; Aubrey (Christine) Chambers, Branson, Ore.; and a sister-niece Mary Christine Preito, Akron. He also has two brothers, Theodore (Ted) Talbert, of Dayton, Ohio; and James (Jim) Talbert of Austin, Texas; 21 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a special aunt, Louise Martin, Youngstown.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary E. Stanton; and his longtime companion, Willa Mae Allen.

Service: 11 a.m. Thursday in the church with Rev. T. James Harrison, pastor.
Burial: Morefield Cemetery, Hermitage.
