Marian Takoch

Homemaker, Seventh-day Adventist served on boards

- — Marian Takoch of Hermitage passed away peacefully of natural causes at 3 p.m. Friday (4-18-14) in Clepper Manor, Sharon surrounded by her family and loved ones. She was 87.

Mrs. Takoch was born Nov. 18, 1926, in Youngstown, a daughter of Ivan J. Srbic and Anna Schmidt Srbic Sonoff.

She was a member of Chaney High School’s graduating class of 1945.

In her early years, she was proud to have served with the Civil Air Patrol during World War II as part of the war effort and was proficient as a plane spotter.

A homemaker and devoted Christian, Mrs. Takoch dedicated herself to God and her family and belonged to the Shenango Valley Seventh-day Adventist Church in Shenango Township where she was a deaconess for many years.

Marian was a member and past president of both the Hermitage Democratic Women’s Club and the Mercer County Regional Interfaith Council.

She was also a member and past chairman of the Mercer County Regional Planning Commission and it was noted that she was the first woman to hold that office representing what is now the city of Hermitage.

She is survived by her loving husband, John J. Takoch Sr. They married Nov. 16, 1946, and enjoyed 67 years of married life.

She is also survived by her three daughters, Roberta A. Anton and her husband Edward, West Middlesex; Loretta “Lori” M. Weston and her husband Bert, Mercer; and Marian J. “Mimi” Prada and her husband Jose, Hermitage; two sons, John J. Takoch Jr. and his wife Diane, Annville, Pa.; and Christopher D. Takoch and his wife Dana, Hermitage; and 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, with two more who are soon to be born. She also leaves her sister, Catherine Sok, Lancaster County.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a great-granddaughter, Emma Katherine Anton.
