Illume Pearl “Kathleen” Lyon Vaughn, Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Sharon, passed away peacefully of natural causes at 8:40 p.m. Thursday (4-17-14) at her residence. She was 97.
Kathleen was born in Cleveland, a daughter of Harry and Rose Urben Lyon.
She graduated from high school and later studied at the University of Hawaii at Hilo.
She fondly remembered working in her early years as a soda jerk. She also worked in home furnishings sales in eastern Ohio with her husband. Later in life she was a care provider and worked for several nursing homes throughout the Shenango Valley.
She was raised a Christian Scientist and remained faithful to the teachings of the Christian Science Church.
A published poet, she enjoyed reading and writing poetry.
Kathleen enjoyed the simple things in life such as reading, the fragrance of flowers, and butterflies.
Her husband, Kenneth Raymond Vaughn, whom she married Nov. 16, 1935, passed away March 17, 1981.
She leaves: her four sons, David Christian Vaughn with whom she lived; Christopher Lyon Vaughn, Greencastle, Ind.; Daniel Leon Vaughn, Vincennes, Ind.; and Kenneth Leigh Vaughn and his wife Kate, Transfer.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Star Madonna Raver; and two sisters, Radiance Bonnell and Eva Lyon.
