Renwick ‘Ren’ Smoot

FHS basketball standout was excellent cook

- — A funeral service celebrating the life of Renwick “Ren” Smoot will be Saturday at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Sharon.

Mr. Smoot was called home at 5:40 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2014, in his home in Farrell with his loving family by his side. He was 55.

Ren was born Oct. 18, 1958, in Sharon, a son of Riley and Alice Smoot Sr.

He was a proud 1977 alumnus of Farrell High School, where he excelled as a member of the basketball team. After graduation, he moved to Seattle and was formerly employed with Boeing as a welder.

In 1985 Ren relocated to Farrell and was formerly employed with Ainsworth Pet Nutrition in Greenville.

An avid fan of the Cleveland Indians, Browns and Los Angeles Lakers, Ren also loved to spend time with his family and friends.  He was known as an excellent cook who will deeply be missed by those who knew and loved him.

Ren leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Carmen Williams-Smoot, Farrell; his son, Aaren D. Smoot of Pittsburgh; his daughter, Sarah E. Smoot of Farrell; three stepchildren, Leah and Micah Wiley of Farrell; and Daniel Wiley of Sharon; a special son/nephew Chiz Phillips; Farrell, his brother, Riley Smoot Jr. and his wife Cheryl, and his sister, Jean Phillips Green and her husband Wayne, all of Farrell; three grandchildren, Jamil Smoot, Da’Miah and Jamyla Wiley; his mother-in-law, the Rev. Barbara McCrae; and a host of relatives and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Lorraine Smoot-Stone.

Calling hours: 10 a.m. to time of service Saturday (5-3-14) at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 858 Wallis Ave., Sharon.

The family will also receive friends at the Smoot home, 914 Lisa Lane, Farrell.
