Edward ‘Ed’ E. Mittelstadt

WCI retiree, Vietnam vet had siblings living here

---- — NILES, Ohio – Edward “Ed” E. Mittelstadt of Warren, Ohio, passed away at 5:05 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2013, in Autumn Hills Care Center in Niles. He was 65.

Mr. Mittelstadt was born Feb. 19, 1948, in Conneaut, Ohio, a son of Edward G. and Goldie M. Green Mittelstadt.

He was a 2001 retiree of the former WCI Steel Co., Warren.

As a veteran of the Army, Ed served his country during the Vietnam conflict and was a member of the Army Navy Post 283 in Warren, where he served as post commander for four years.

He enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycle, doing yard work and gardening.

Ed’s real enjoyment was being involved with his grandchildren’s activities; he also enjoyed animals.

Ed is survived by his wife of 13 years, the former LouAnn Hansel, whom he married Aug. 7, 1999.

He also leaves: his mother-in-law, whom he enjoyed helping out, LaVerne Hansel, Niles; seven children, Kenneth Kempski, Cleveland; Melissa Mittelstadt, Warren; Mary Baumgardner, Conneaut, Ohio; Dawn Mittelstadt-Rigg, Michigan; Michael Lawrence, Liberty Township, Trumbull County; and Candace Lawrence and Adrian Barbutes, both Niles; a brother, Walter Mittelstadt, Hadley; three sisters, Sandra Hammons, Greenville; Bonnie Nieswonger, Hermitage; and Edna “Penny” Waldo, Greenville; and 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Linda, wife of Ray Walters; Laura Portale and Loretta Lepo; and several nieces and nephews.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Mittlestadt; and two sisters, Eleanor “Marie” Billic and Doris Waldo.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Ed’s name to Disabled American Veterans, Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
