James Richard ‘Rip’ Redic

Teacher, hall-of-fame coach was Mercer native


---- — WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. – James Richard “Rip” Redic of Arvada, Colo., died Sunday, May 5, 2013, in Lutheran Medical Center in Wheat Ridge. He was 88.

Mr. Redic was born Jan. 18, 1925, in Mercer to David and Esther Day Redic.

He was a veteran of the Navy and a graduate of Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill.

A retired teacher and coach, he served for more than two decades as a Denver Prep League coach and was selected in 1987 to Colorado High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Doris Noble; his sons, Richard and Robert; his daughter, Rorie and son-in-law Joe; four grandsons and three great-grandsons.

He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and many nieces and nephews from the Shenango Valley area.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Pete and Don, all Mercer.

Services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2013, in Arvada United Methodist Church, with military interment at Fort Logan (Colo.) Military Cemetery.
