Roland F. ‘Ron’ Miller Sr.

Restaurant manager also maintained fairgrounds


---- — Roland F. “Ron” Miller Sr. of Lake Township (Sandy Lake), went to be with Jesus at 6 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2013, in UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh, after an extended illness. He was 70.

Born July 29, 1942, in the former Mercer Cottage Hospital, Mr. Miller was a son of Fred J. and Eleanor A. Smith Miller.

He was a 1960 graduate of Lakeview High School.

Ron managed the Vengold Dairy/Restaurant of Sandy Lake from 1965 to 1976. He also worked as a crane operator for 20 years at the former Cooper-Bessemer of Grove City, then worked for Sandy Lake Borough for 14 years as the head of maintenance at Stoneboro Fairgrounds.

He was a faithful member of New Lebanon Community Church.

Ron was an avid reader and enjoyed hunting, working with wood, cars and collecting antique bottles. He especially enjoyed spending his time with his great-grandchildren.

He is survived by: his wife of 47 years, at home, the former Nancy J. Blair, whom he married Dec. 16, 1965; his four children, Steven C. Miller and his wife Mary Lou VanWormer, and Tammy R. Amos and her husband Michael, all Sandy Lake; Michael J. Miller, Tampa, Fla.; and Rhonda K. Miller Bellwood, Pa.; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Betty McQuaid, Sandy Lake; Pearl Gregory, Polk; and Jeanette Zinz, Linesville; and two brothers, Walter Miller, Sandy Lake; and Thomas Miller and his wife Leatrice, Windsor, Va.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Roland F. Miller Jr.; and a sister, Rebecca Mason.

Calling hours: 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday (7-14-13) in SCOTT A. BLACK FUNERAL HOME, 99 Franklin St., Stoneboro.

Service: Funeral and committal service at 11 a.m. Monday (7-15-13) in the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Richard C. Steinlechner, pastor of New Lebanon Community Church, officiating.

Interment: New Lebanon Cemetery, Mill Creek Township.
